AKG C414 P48

The AKG C414 EB-P48 is a vintage large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone from the early 1980s, the 48V phantom-powered version of the classic C414 EB. It shares the EB's body and CK12-type capsule, the design behind the C414's reputation as one of the most versatile studio mics ever made.

Its sound is full and detailed with an open top end, and many engineers find it a touch darker and smoother than later C414 models. That makes it a great choice for vocals, voice-over, acoustic guitar, piano, strings, drum overheads and room miking.

Four polar patterns let you pick the right pickup for the job: cardioid for a single source, omni for a natural room sound, hypercardioid for extra isolation, and figure-8 for duets or M/S and Blumlein stereo. The built-in pad handles loud sources such as guitar cabinets and brass, and the high-pass filter cleans up rumble and proximity effect. It needs a preamp or recorder with 48V phantom power.
