Electro-Voice ND46
The Electro-Voice ND46 is a supercardioid dynamic microphone for instruments, with a short body and a head that pivots and locks in place. Press the button, angle the head where you want it, release, and it stays put even if it gets bumped.
EV built it for drums and cabinets, and it shines in tight spots around a kit: toms and floor toms, where a regular mic and clip get in the way. It is also a great choice on electric guitar cabinets. Placed close to the speaker, it gives a full, punchy sound with a solid low end, and its tight supercardioid pattern keeps the drums and the rest of the band out of the guitar channel. Bass cabinets and other loud sources work well too.
A shock-mounted capsule cuts handling and stand noise, a humbucking coil guards against hum near amps and power racks, and the Memraflex grille resists dents from stick hits. It is passive, so no phantom power is needed. A good pick in Montréal for a live show or a studio session.
