Sound Devices USBPre-2

/

The Sound Devices USBPre 2 is a portable two-channel USB audio interface and microphone preamp, built in a rugged metal case for studio, field and lab work. It brings Sound Devices' low-noise preamps to a laptop for voice-over, podcasts, interviews, music, sound effects and acoustic measurement.

Two XLR mic inputs with phantom power handle condensers and dynamics alike, and two 6.35 mm line inputs plus an RCA input take mixers, players and other line sources. On the output side, two XLR outputs can feed a camera, recorder or PA at line or mic level, and a headphone output lets you monitor directly. Digital S/PDIF input and output, on coaxial and optical connectors, connect it to other digital gear. Conversion runs up to 24-bit and 192 kHz.

It's powered over USB, so a single cable to the computer is all you need. In stand-alone mode it also works without a computer, as a mic preamp and converter. Rent it in Montréal to turn any laptop into a high-quality recording rig.
