Zoom H5

The Zoom H5 is a handheld four-track recorder with an interchangeable microphone capsule, made for field recording, interviews, music, podcasts and video. It ships with the XYH-5 capsule, a matched pair of directional condenser mics set at 90 degrees for a natural, focused stereo image.

Two XLR/TRS combo inputs with phantom power take shotgun mics, lavalier receivers, dynamic mics or line sources from a mixer. You can record them alongside the stereo capsule, for example a room sound plus two voices, each on its own track for editing later. Recordings go to SD or SDHC cards in WAV, up to 24-bit and 96 kHz, or MP3 when you need small files.

Connected to a computer by USB, the H5 also works as an audio interface for podcasting or voice-over. Light and simple, it runs on two AA batteries and fits easily in a bag or on a camera. Swap the capsule for other Zoom input modules if your project calls for it. Rent it in Montréal for a documentary, a band rehearsal, a podcast on the go or sound effects.
